What do I need to bring to a Will Appointment?

There is a lot more to writing a Will than just writing down your wishes as to who should receive your estate. Just like you, your Will does not exist in a vacuum and is part of a much bigger picture involving various aspects of your life. In order to advise you as to how to write your Will it is necessary to consider the context in which it is being written.  The big questions are:

  1. Who is in your family and/or who might think they are entitled to share in your estate?

  2. What are your assets and how do you own them – in your own name or together with someone else?

It is vitally important to know what assets your Will can and can’t control, and whether other things need to be put in place in order to achieve your desired outcomes following your death.

This is where simply “making a Will” steps up to estate planning.  In my opinion, writing a Will without informed consideration of the different factors that are relevant to a Will and its proper operation is pointless.Despite the somewhat daunting name estate planning is for everyone, not just wealthy individuals with complicated financial affairs.  Our job is to educate you about how your situation is affected by estate law and guide you through the decision-making process to produce a valid and appropriate Will that caters to your specific needs.
